1. Scope
East LA Tax (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal and financial information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, transmit, use, share, and safeguard information submitted through eastlatax.com and during a tax-preparation engagement.
2. Information We Collect
We collect personal and financial information that you voluntarily provide through our intake forms and document uploads. This may include identifying information (name, address, phone, email), tax-related data (SSN/ITIN, filing status, dependents, income, deductions), and supporting documents (W-2, 1099, prior-year returns, ID). We may also collect limited technical data such as IP address, browser type, and pages viewed in order to operate and secure the Site.
3. How We Use Your Information
- Preparing and filing your tax return.
- Communicating with you about your engagement.
- Detecting fraud, abuse, or unauthorized access.
- Complying with applicable legal, regulatory, and professional obligations.
5. Retention & Deletion
We do not maintain a long-term database of your intake submissions. Submitted form data and uploaded documents are transmitted to our tax team and removed from temporary processing storage after successful delivery. Engagement records that we are required to retain (for example, signed returns and supporting documents) are kept for the period required by federal and California law and then securely destroyed.
6. Security & Secure Upload
- All data and file uploads are encrypted while in transit using HTTPS / TLS.
- File types and sizes are restricted to reduce risk.
- Temporary processing files are automatically removed after delivery.
- We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards consistent with the FTC Safeguards Rule (16 CFR Part 314) and IRS Publication 4557.
If you require additional security measures — encrypted ZIP files, password-protected documents, or in-person delivery — tell us before submission. While we take reasonable precautions, ordinary email transmission carries inherent risk; please contact us with any concerns prior to sending sensitive material.
8. GLBA Privacy Notice (Tax Preparers)
As a tax-preparation business we are a “financial institution” under the federal Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA). We collect non-public personal information about you from the sources described above. We disclose that information only to perform the tax-preparation services you have requested, to comply with law, or with your consent.
We restrict access to non-public personal information to those employees and contractors who need it to provide services to you. We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards designed to comply with applicable federal and state standards, including the FTC Safeguards Rule.
9. California Privacy Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, gives you additional rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Right to delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions (such as records we must keep for tax compliance).
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to limit use and disclosure of sensitive personal information.
- Right to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information — we do not sell or share it.
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information at the bottom of this page. We will verify your identity using information already on file and respond within the time required by law. You may also designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf.
Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information: we do not sell or share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Our Site honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal where applicable.
10. Children’s Privacy
Our Site is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 except as part of a parent’s tax-return engagement (for example, dependent information provided by the parent). If you believe a child has provided us information without parental consent, contact us and we will delete it.
11. IRS & Government Disclosure
East LA Tax is an independent tax-preparation service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or any government agency. Information submitted through this Site is used exclusively for tax preparation and related services. Submission of information does not constitute legal or financial advice beyond the scope of tax preparation.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective Date” above shows when the latest revision was published. We will provide a more prominent notice if a change materially affects how we use your personal information.
